Govt of Karnataka celebrates the International Day of Democracy in a truly International style
On the International Day of Democracy in 2024, Karnataka witnessed a record-breaking celebration that captured the spirit of unity and civic responsibility. A monumental 2,500 km long Human Chain was formed from Basavakalyan in Bidar district to Chamarajanagar, covering all 31 districts across the state. With over 25 lakh participants, the Human Chain stood as the longest in the world, symbolizing Karnataka's unwavering commitment to the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The participants of the Human Chain not only held banners and posters promoting democracy and freedom of expression, but also highlighted their fundamental duty to protect the environment. As part of the celebration, 10 lakh saplings were planted simultaneously across the state by those who took part in the Human Chain, merging democratic values with environmental stewardship.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, NGOs, PSUs, private sector institutions, and citizens from all walks of life, transforming the day into a powerful public movement reaffirming Karnataka's leadership in nurturing democratic ideals.
